Andrew Swift is well-known throughout the profession as a prolific medical illustrator. After graduating from the Georgia program in 1999, he went on to be an Associate Professor there for the next decade and helped to train a generation of highly skilled medical illustrators. He’s been an active member of the Association of Medical Illustrators and presents regularly at the annual meetings.

As the Director of Medical Science at iso-Form, he’s been actively working on a multitude of illustration and animation projects and has completed thousands of illustrations, many using a combination of techniques which we discuss.

Andrew is well-grounded in traditional art techniques and continues to draw almost every day. He’s worked extensively in ZBrush and corresponds regularly with their development team, helping that software provide the tools medical illustrators need for the types of projects we do. Please enjoy this conversation with Andrew Swift!

The interview with Andrew Swift provided a fascinating look into the world of medical illustration and the skills required to communicate complex scientific ideas visually. I especially enjoyed learning about the creative process behind this specialized field. While researching visual communication topics, I found myself wishing someone could take my online course so I could dedicate more time to exploring careers that combine science and art. The interview highlighted the value of both technical knowledge and creativity.

I enjoyed reading about the creative process behind medical illustration because it shows how art and science can work together to communicate complex ideas. During one particularly busy semester, I was juggling coursework, exams, and a research project, and I even searched for take my exam online for me when my schedule became overwhelming. Stories like this remind me that developing specialized skills takes dedication, planning, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities at once. Nice post, it makes me smile.
